Samsung Mobile 500 Live: Story Line!
The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series took a week off after a wild race at Martinsville Speedway. This week, the series moves to Texas Motor Speedway for the Samsung Mobile 500.
Texas Motor Speedway is one of the fastest racetracks on the NASCAR circuit. It was tough for NASCAR fans to have a weekend without racing, but a fast Saturday night special in the Lone Star State should more than make up for it.
It was another great week for my team at Martinsville. I started Jeff Gordon, Ryan Newman, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Brian Vickers in the Yahoo! Fantasy Auto Racing game.
The lineup was good enough for 337 points (1,750 total points for the season) and moved me back up to the top 99 percent of Yahoo Fantasy Auto Racing players (Ranked No. 776 overall out of 202,000).
For the Fantasy Live game, I started Kevin Harvick, Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson, Brian Vickers and Aric Almirola.
My strategy of selecting drivers who would lead many laps in the 500-lap race paid off. My team scored 445 points. Most of my score came from Gordon’s 231 points. My team has 1,517 points for the season, which places me No. 702 overall in the Fantasy Live game.

It's NASCAR race day at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, Calif. and we've got the actual race start time, the starting lineup and some other facts about today's race for you below.

What time does the race start today? Remember the Three Stooges from the Daytona 500? The actors from the upcoming movie "delivered" the green flag to the flagstand after two actresses from the film were grand marshals. Well, now the Stooges themselves are grand marshals, and they'll give the command at 3:07 p.m. Eastern time. The field is scheduled to take the green flag at 3:16 p.m., but that's highly unlikely due to the weather forecast today.

Race name/distance: The Auto Club 400 is 200 laps around the 2-mile Fontana track. The race distance is significant because the track chose to go with the 400-mile distance when it was cut back to one date instead of keeping the 500-mile distance.

TV and radio: Today's race can be seen on FOX. Every Sprint Cup Series race through May will be on the FOX network. Unfortunately, there is no live streaming of the race – but you can listen on the Motor Racing Network's Web site (just click the red link). You can also check MRN's site for a list of affiliate stations in your area.

National anthem: Old-school rockers Night Ranger will sing the national anthem today after performing a pre-race concert. Pop star JoJo was originally scheduled to do the anthem, but was replaced for an unknown reason.

Tickets: Auto Club Speedway hasn't come close to selling out for years. There are plenty of tickets available if you're interested in attending.

Weather: The unofficial NASCAR weatherman, Brian Neudorff, says today's race will likely be a washout. Neudorff says there's less than a 10 percent chance the race gets in today, so it will likely be a Monday event. You can see Neudorff's complete forecast here.

Last time: Kevin Harvick out-dueled Jimmie Johnson in one of the more exciting finishes of the 2011 season, beating the No. 48 car to the line and debunking the myth of Johnson's "golden horseshoe" – a term Harvick christened after losing to Johnson at Fontana in 2010.

Daytona 500: Start Time, Live Streaming, TV Schedule Tickets, Preview & More!

The Daytona 500 is a 500 miles (804.7 km)-long NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race held annually at the Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida. It is one of four restrictor plate races on the Cup schedule.

The Daytona 500 is regarded as the most important and prestigious race on the NASCAR calendar, carrying by far the largest purse.[1] Championship points awarded are equal to that of any other Sprint Cup race. It is also the series' first race of the year; this phenomenon is virtually unique in sports, which tend to have championships or other major events at the end of the season rather than the start. Since 1995, U.S. television ratings for the Daytona 500 have been the highest for any auto race of the year, surpassing the traditional leader, the Indianapolis 500 which in turn greatly surpasses the Daytona 500 in in-track attendance and international viewing. The 2006 Daytona 500 attracted the sixth largest average live global TV audience of any sporting event that year with 20 million viewers.[2]

Pre-Race Activities
In what is always one of the best experiences of the year, NASCAR will blow out the party they have for the 500 by bringing in plenty of celebrity guests. Not only will singer Lenny Kravitz open the event, WWE star John Cena will be the honorary starter for the race. This is the biggest event of the year and the sport will not let us down.

Driver to Watch: Danica Patrick
With the pole already locked up, Carl Edwards has become the odds on favorite to start this season with a win. That would be huge for a man who was leading the series in points for a good chunk of last season before letting it slip away in the waning days of the season. Edwards would like to begin the road to glory at the Daytona 500.

Prediction: Dale Earnhardt Jr. wins

After going over 100 races without a win on any track, and going since 2004 without a Daytona 500 win, Dale Jr. is looking to star his season of redemption off with a huge win. It will take plenty of luck to be there at the end, but Junior knows what it takes to win at the highest level and now has the equipment to match his elite driving. A win at the Daytona 500 would make Earnhardt a favorite for this season’s Sprint Cup Series title.
List of Daytona 500 winners

For NASCAR Grand National winners at Daytona from 1949–1958, see Daytona Beach & Road Course.
Mario Andretti, born in Italy, is the only driver to win the race not from the United States.

It is amazing that in the 53-year history of the race, we have 10 finishes that rank among the top finishes the sport has ever seen at any track. Restrictor plates have played a part in a lot of these and is the main reason these finishes are so exciting, since they keep the cars so close together. These exciting finishes span seven different decades of the race. With the recent excitement of the finishes in the Daytona 500, we can only imagine what could happen in just a few days when we have the 54th running of the Great American Race.

The 1990 Daytona 500 was dominated by one driver. However, it wasn't the winner, it was Dale Earnhardt. He led 155 of the 200 laps that day blistering the field. On his final lap, Earnhardt had a commanding lead until heading into Turn 3, where his right rear tire shredded from debris. This event allowed Derrick Cope to pass Earnhardt to take the first win of his career. That day defined the curse for Earnhardt.

The Daytona 500 is truly a race that creates and defines legends.

The “Alabama Gang” was running one and two in the final laps. Bobby Allison was trying to capture his third Daytona 500 while leading his son Davey Allison. This was the first Daytona 500 in the restrictor plate age.

Davey Allison waited until the final lap to try to pass his father. If he had attempted it earlier, it would have cost both men the win. Bobby Allison was too strong and Davey couldn’t pass him on the final turn and Bobby was first to the checkered flag winning the 30th running of the Daytona 500.
